Application and enrollment

For National Applicants

To begin your studies in Computer Science, Applied Computer Science, or IT Security at Ruhr University Bochum, you must register online through the university secretariat (i.e., enroll).

Important: The procedure described for national applicants is currently only valid with some reservations! The binding presentation will take place from around mid-April.

University entrance qualification: Proof of general qualification for university entrance (e.g., high school diploma or vocational qualification)

English B2 Certification: Proficiency in English at the B2 level is already certified by the german Abitur.

For International Applicants

Prospective students with foreign school qualifications must apply. The application is possible through the RUB Admissions Office application portal during the application periods (usually from early June to July 15). Afterward, the application documents must be uploaded to the Admissions Information Portal. This includes, among other things, proof of sufficient knowledge of the German language.

English B2 Proof: Evidence of English language proficiency at B2 level.

Accepted proof of English language proficiency includes:

– German Abitur certificate, provided English was taken throughout the final years of secondary education

DAAD Language certificate from Ruhr-University Bochum (B2)

– UNIcert II
– IELTS Academic with a score of 6.0 or higher
– TOEFL iBT with a score of 85 or higher
– PTE Academic with a score of 55 or higher
– FCE (First Certificate in English)
– CAE (Certificate in Advanced English)
– Possibly other certificates

German C1 Proof: Evidence of German language proficiency at C1 level.

If you have not studied in Germany and do not hold German citizenship, you must provide proof of German language proficiency. The following proofs are accepted:

– TestDaF with at least 16 points within one examination session
– DSH (level 2 or 3)
– German Language Diploma – DSD – II
– ZOP or Goethe Certificate C2 from the Goethe Institute
– KDS or GDS from the Goethe Institute
– ÖSD Language Diploma C1
– telc German C1 for higher education
– Assessment Exam (German part of the examination)
